It is just about graduation time and this is as good an occasion as any to revisit David Foster Wallace’s Kenyon College commencement speech from 2005: This is water.

There is so much here, so much to reflect on or think about. Acknowledging self-centeredness, the choices that are made without thinking, the fact that some things are incredibly important even if we cannot see them. Noticing depth in the day-in and day-out, resisting the default mode and stepping off the autopilot.

Though there is comfort in certainty, deeper understanding and clearer views of reality can often be found, when that certainty is questioned.

Reality teaches us, if we let it.
